He holds a Bachelor of Arts [BA] (Kashmir University); Bachelor of Law [LLB] (Aligarh University); Mufti (Honours; in Persian and Arabic) Kashmir University He is married to Mrs. Farkhundah Begum daughter of Syed Ghulam Mustafa and Mrs Raja Begum on 1 October 1940, having four daughters, Mumtaz Akhter, Farrukh Bashira Bashi, Qayoom Zahida and Farida Afridi.
